Event Description

Dear all Ambers

I am going to live on an island of the coast of South America. I will be there permanently and have 6 weeks holiday a year. We have a climbing group and there are as many trips per year to Patagonia and the like as possible. All Ambers would be welcome to join any of the trips, and it's not just climbing, there is also mountaineering, hiking and just general traveling on this beautiful continent. Some popular countries are Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil. However, a Caribbean holiday is also likely, and some trips to North America: Yosemite etc.

The group is mostly British, laid back and welcoming to new people (as climbing groups often are). I don't have any experience of South America other than Peru, so this is also a good chance to meet some people who know the continent.

I hope to see some/all of you some time over the coming years. From Tierra del Fuego we go North!

That sounds awesome - Zion Canyon looks amazing in the photos I've seen. I'll be in Italy looking at rocks (not climbing them - well, not intending to, never know though) through all of October, so won't be joining. Have fun!

There is some great trad climbing here! we are going out again tomorrow as the weather is sunny and warm. There is a distinct lack of any overhangs but plenty of multi-pitches. Hope you keeping well friend.

Forgot to mention Zion is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!, just check it out, for instance the amazing Great White Throne, the tallest sandstone cliff in the world at a whopping 2200 feet. So for the days in between climbing there will be scenery to die for.

Hi all, Just checking in from my island base. Can you all register your interest in Zion Canyon, it's in Utah. I am looking at a mid-October trip, two weeks or more. The temperatures are ideal at this time of year, and it's off season for tourists. There is some sport climbing, but mostly trad.

If your interested you will need to consider flying to Las Vegas. There I can meet you at the airport. It will be a 2.5 hour drive to Zion. We will hire camper vans for the trip: ~$600 for 3 people for two weeks, and stay in the Canyon. Camping is ~$18 a night, and there is a $50 entry fee for unlimited access to the canyon for 2 weeks.

So in a nut shell you will need to look at flights, some of the costs above and the normal food bill. We will sort gear out later on, although I have a comprehensive trad and sport rack now.

See what you think.

Awesome - the next 6 months are going to be incredibly busy for me, but after that I'll be interested to see what comes up. Hopefully see you there. :)

Hi Kristina,

I will post the details of any trips here, with a location and dates etc. You would be welcome to join any of the events and it would be great to have a fellow Ambers climber in the group! So far people have show a variety of interest from climbing, mountaineering (the Belgian Alpine Club have an ascent, Aconcagua, Argentina, 2016) and just some general traveling around and savoring the local plonk, so there should be something to suit everyone. I hope to see you in South America Kristina.

I'm moving to Brazil at the end of the month for two years - I'm not sure how much time off I'll get, but I'd like to hear about the plans for trips and if I'm able to join that'd be great. :D Definitely keen to explore and always better to do so with other people.
