Hi everyone,
Just joined the Network after having discovered the thrill and an amazing amount of enthusiasm for climbing while on a holiday in Thailand. Have never never climbed prior to this, and have never previously climbed indoors, but would love to start!
Appreciate if you could shed some light on what would be the best way to go about joining a beginners group or beginners course or how else to go about starting the activity in Amsterdam. Climbed a few walls (5/6a) on my holiday and learned to belay.
From the forum I understood that the places in Ams are @ Centraal and Sloterdijk, as well as USC - unaware of this last location...
I do not have any own gear at the moment, so would be interested in renting for starters (appreciate cost & any other hints and tips on this), but will certainly be willing to invest down the line.
Will keep an eye out for upcoming events, but am also happy to join smaller groups/individuals who have either recently started or do not mind taking on a bit of an instructor-like role :-) Am available in the evenings during the week (start about 7pm and am flexible about the days), as well as on the weekends.
Appreciate the feedback and looking forward to it!

Most of the climbing halls in Amsterdam offer training courses. I did my beginners course at Sloterdijk http://www.klimhalamsterdam.nl/. The website is also in English.
You can rent gear at all the gyms.
There are a lot of level 5/6a people in Ambers and, in my experience, we partner up with people on our level so never worry about that.
My suggestion: See if you can make the event on Saturday http://amsterdamclimbers.com/events/saturday-s-night-climbing. Let them know you're new to the club, I'm sure they'll be kind :-) and then talk to the guys at Sloterdijk to see if you need to do a course.
Hope this helps a bit...

Many thanks!
Have signed up for a beginners course in Feb @ Centraal, as it is somewhat more convenient location-wise. And thanks for the Sat evening tip, will definitely be there!

A course always comes in handy ;-) After few years not climbing, I'm going to take a a beginners course as a refresher. in February. Especial with that stuff as a KVB.

KVB= Klim Vaardigheids Bewijs (Climbing Skill Proof) http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klimvaardigheidsbewijs,
I'm going to do my course with Mountain Network (my former favourite hal).
You'll meet me Saturday ;-)
Cheerio,
Ludger
To begin is always interesting and scary at the same time. I have just started my course at Sloterdijk. If you need someone to train with, I am happy to offer my candidacy for a partner's role=) Dont mind climbing either at Centraal or Sloterdijk. Changing walls may be useful. It will keep the interest even higher than it is=)
Let me know if need be.
Best,
Irina
