Alain Robert climb

Nice set of photos of Alain Robert's (aka "Spiderman") latest antics in Cuba.

It's not so much the climbing that makes me laugh as the look of horror on the spectators' faces (see photo 4 in this series).

Personally, I think I'll stick to the klimmuur.....

Looking for 3rd climber

Hi there!

After a longer break with climbing due to a heart surgery I want to start climbing again. I want to go with a friend of mine, who is a beginner. Now we are looking for a more experienced (around 5/ 6a, like me) third climber in order to teach my friend savety and technical stuff. We are - understandable - not allowed to go climbing with only two persons until my friend knows how it works.…

Climbing trip in Orpierre with Mirjam Verbeek

Since our very first outdoor climbing trip (with Ambers) in april 2012, we fell in love with the rocks. We decided to get more experience and do an outdoor course to learn outdoor techniques. Our choice is an outdoor climbing course with former multiple Dutch champion Mirjam Verbeek.…

The birth of a biner at the DMM factory tour

This year (2012) the UK Trad trip were lucky enough to find themselves in North Wales on a wet and windy afternoon with little to do - doubly lucky as we had been invited to take a look around the DMM factory where all the DMM hardware is designed, made and shipped from.…

Dear Ambers,

For anyone looking to buy a house in Amsterdam, here´s a good oppertunity.

These appartements are tiny (28 or 35 m) but affordable, with prices starting at 85 000.

It´s located inside the A10 (just) and is well reached by car, metro, tram or bus. There are also parking spots for sale.

The area is calm and…

Boulder Worldcup in Innsbruck!

My third worldcup this year.

I had to start last this time....I really should get some ranking points so that wont happen again!  Problem with starting last this time was the temperature. In the morning it was around 9 degrees....once I had to start (13.00) it was around 24 degrees. Sweaty hands, slippery slopers and not strong enough to be able to hold on.

I did feel pretty strong though and finally could climb as I wanted, so up for Vail!

Berdorf

Back from a weekend in Berdorf, and this time we got checked.

Berdorf is getting more and more popular, for fairly obvious reasons - it's a beautiful location, it's quiet, and it has excellent, well-bolted routes. The crag is situated in a nature reserve, and the Luxembourg environment ministry try to manage it through a permit system. There is no automatic right for anyone to climb there - you must have a permit. These are very easy to obtain, and you can apply for a permit for…

Good bye Old Friend

Today I decided to retire an old Climbing friend... my Troll Harness. He served me well in my climbing adventures. And I met a new friend: a BA Momentum harness. I hope we'll have a good friendship ;-)

Where to buy climbing-gear ?

My birthday is in may and for the money I ask I want to buy a new climbing-gear, what I use now is at least 10 years old.

Does anybody know a large climbing-gear shop somewhere ?

I know them in Amsterdam, but I prefer to go somewhere else.

I won!!! Thanks DMM

I had fun trying to find the correct answers for the DMM competition on Ambers. A couple of years ago my work was all about manufacturing.

And yesterday DMM made my day! They had mailed me two beautiful prices. I received the DMM Ultra O Locksafe and a keyring.

But now I'm wondering. The key ring is a miniature of what? Does anyone know?

2011 Trad trip - Born again....

It's going to be hard to log what is one of the best trips I've ever been on but here goes.

In a week of the best camp cooking ever, crazy shakespeare quotes and some of the best weather the UK could throw at us - Andreea, Flo, Kieran and myself got to grips with some of the best rock on the planet, gods very own Gritstone.

The 4 day forecast was…

The longest artificial route in the world!

A year ago Hans and I met talking about an article which we read in 'de Hoogtelijn'. It was an artical about something we had never heard of before; dam climbing. Reading the article lead to searching the internet, looking for information about dams you can climb. Our search quickly revealed that one of the most interesting dams (the Luzzone dam) would be just about on route to Finale. On the way to Finale we never got to do the dam, since it was still snowing according to the…

Italy - Finale

Originally headed for Swiss to meet up with the Ambers gang in the Winanni hut we (Sanne and myself) decided to change plans and head south. (judging from Dans pictures, a good decision ;-) )

We wanted a bit more warmth, which we got in Finale, a comfortable 21 through 28 degrees ;-) We camped at a very nice and hospitable campsite called Park Mara in the town of Borgio Verezzi. A nice two star campsite with proper facilities and a very friendly staff which make great…

Alpine adventure

Alpine adventure doesn't really encompass the weekend we went to Wiwanni in the summer? of June 2011.

If anyone reading this for one minute thinks that the Alps are just not worth the effort think again - the weather was varied :-) The climbing brilliant, and the views stunning.
